Description |
This medicine chest has a wood frame with a large knot in the top and is covered in rawhide. The chest has iron handles, tacked, and is lined with newspapers that include "The Georgia Constitution", 3-25-1845 and "The New Jersey State Gazette", 3-28-1845. |

This chest has an extensive past that dates back to the American Revolution. Colonel Robert Gamble of Gamble's Hill used this chest while serving in the Revolutionary War. Colonel Gamble later gave the chest to his son-in-law, Governor William Cabell, and was used by him in the Mexican War. The chest was then left to Governor Cabell's son, Dr. John Grattan Cabell, and used by him while a surgeon in the Civil War. |
