Provenance |
The tableware set was reportedly used in the White House of the Confederacy. Mr. and Mrs. John Clapp gave the set to Mrs. Catherine H. B. Winston. It is similar, or possibly identical to, a china pattern owned by John Marshall, and believed used to entertain Gen. Lafayette in 1823-1824. It is said to be decorated by Etienne Jean Louis Blancheron, 1790-1810. |
