This is Confederate coffee found in the home of Miss Georgia Wager, Culpeper, Virginia in the summer of 1908 when some repair work was being done. It had been sealed in stone jars and hidden under the garret floor during 1861-1865. Part of the coffee was given to the donor by Mrs. Wager. "A small box filled with Confederate coffee found in the home of Miss Georgie Wager of Culpeper, VA, during some repair work in the summer of 1908. It was sealed in stone jars which were hidden under the garret floors during the war 1861-1865. Donated by Augusta B. Fothergill of Richmond to whom Miss Wager gave this amount." |
