An antimacassar was used to cover the back of a chair to protect the upholstery from the macassar oil used to dress hair. Mrs. Mary E. Burroughs took this one from the Davis Mansion in Richmond, Virginia three days after the evacuation of the Confederate Army. Mrs. Burroughs' spouse was Brevet Gen. George T. Burroughs, US Army. |
