Model 1852 U. S. Naval Officer's Sword:slightly curved, single-edged blade with two fullers, etched with oak leaf sprays, fouled anchor, military trophies,eagle, scroll with "USN" and engraved "H. Horstmann / & Sons / Philadelphia"; knight's head stamped on reverse ricasso; wood grip covered in shagreen and wound in twisted wire (most of wire wrap missing), pommel cap decorated with raised eagle surrounded by stars, knuckle bow broken, guard decorated with pierced design of oak leak spray and scroll with "USN"; dolphin's head quillon. Leather scabbard (.3700b) with brass mounts, knotted rope design hold suspension rings, drag cast in the form of a stylized dolphin/sea serpent, scroll applied into reverse throat "Horstmann / & / Sons / Makers / Philada". |
