This handkerchief was captured at Wilmington, NC, in February 1865 by Adolphus B. Withenburg of Shelby, Michigan. Private Adolphus B. Withenburg served in the 191st Ohio Infantry and the 177th Ohio Infantry, Co. D. As part of the 177th, Withenburg was involved in operations at Fort Fisher and Wilmington.
