Provenance |
Bottle of sugar captured by E. Courtney Jenkins of the cruiser CSS Chickamauga from a Yankee merchantman vessel. Said to have served nine portions. The CSS Chickamauga departed Wilmington in October 1864. She captured six prizes off New York -- including the "Emily L. Hall" on October 31, 1864, from which this bottle is believed to have been taken (based upon "E. L. Hall inscription) -- before returning to Wilmington in November. She transported ammunition to Fort Fisher during its bombardments in December 1864 and January 1865. |
