Captain Joseph M. Storey served in Co. G, 43rd Georgia Infantry. A bullet hole on the left side of the coat reveals where Storey was wounded through the lung at the battle of Jonesboro, Georgia, on August 31, 1864. Left for dead on the field, one of his men found him. The man used his blanket for a stretcher, rescued Storey, and took him to a train, which carried him to a Macon hospital. Once he recovered, Storey returned to service. Storey had also been wounded at Baker's Creek (Champion Hill), Mississippi, during the Vicksburg campaign. |
