Buried Oconee Cemetery, Athens, Georgia Ann Carter and Georgia Bryan's father, Thomas Marsh Bryan, changed his surname to Forman in 1846 to secure his maternal grandfather's estate in Maryland. Carter's mother was Florida Troup (daughter of an Ann Carter) d. 1847. In 1849 Bryan-Forman then married Helen Brooke, daughter of Francis Brooke of Fredericksburg and granddaughter of John Carter of Shirley (Robert E. Lee's great-grandfather). Helen Brooke's second daughter was Florida Troup Forman (after her husband's first wife).
