Confederate officer. Captain, Company A, 13th North Carolina - April 29, 1861; major, 47th North Carolina - March 24, 1862; Lt. Col. - April 5, 1863. Prisoner at Gettysburg. Died in prison at Johnson's Island - March 2, 1864 of a stroke. Graves' body was sent to friends in Philadelphia and later transported home to Yanceyville, N.C. where he is buried in the First Baptist Church Cemetery. |
